Award winning, designer Susan Cohan, APLD, specializes in the creation of beautifully crafted outdoor spaces for gracious living. Each landscape design is carefully conceived to complement its surroundings and enhance the lives of its owners. In addition to residential landscapes for private clients she has won the highest design honors for her concept gardens for the New Jersey Flower and Garden Show and the Mansion in May and Stately Homes-by-the-Sea designer showhouses.
From woodland walks to patios and outdoor kitchens to formal garden rooms, Susan draws on a wide range of influences to develop her designs. Attention to detail, sustainable practices and fine craftsmanship are hallmarks of Cohan's work. Artisanal stonework, handmade details, and plants chosen specifically for each site combine to address each project's unique characteristics. No two finished landscapes are ever the same.
Susan Cohan oversees every project from concept to completion. Each step along the way is carefully communicated to her clients that enables them to visualize how her design will become their unified and very personal garden setting.
After achieving a successful career in the fashion industry, Susan switched gears and fused her love for design with a lifelong passion for gardening. In addition earning an honors certificate in garden design from the English Gardening School at the Chelsea Physic Gardens in London, Susan has earned certificates in horticulture and landscape design from Rutgers University.
Susan Cohan's work has been featured in traditional and digital print as well as other media outlets. Her blog Miss Rumphius' Rules features work in progress, musings on the creative process and insights on design. A founding member of the NJ chapter of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD), she also serves on its International Board of Directors as Membership Chair.
