Flowers for Myself

Sometime around Thanksgiving I bought two bunches of tulips for my winter work table – my other work table is in the unheated studio.  I splurge on fresh flowers for myself in the winter when none are available to cut from the garden – they help hold the grey weather at bay.  I’m not sure why, but these particular tulips held me completely in their thrall.  Their subtle changes day to day fascinated me.   They lasted for more than a week.

  1. What a beauty. Now those would cheer anyone up. I am with on buying yourself flowers in the winter. Flowers always perk up a day and add a touch of peacefulness no matter the weather.

  2. I love your tulips! Yes, I do buy flowers for myself, usually plants though. I seem to need something blooming all the time. Years ago I found this quote, but it continues to be just as appropriate –
If of thy mortal goods thou art bereft,
    And of thy meager store
Two loaves alone to thee are left,
Sell one, and with the dole
Buy hyacinths to feed thy soul.
    – Sheikh Muslih-uddin Saadi Shirazi, The Gulistan of Saadi, 1270

Thank you for that lovely quote. I have sold a loaf to feed my soul…

  3. How beautiful. I do love how tulips change from day to day and how their stems elongate.

And wonderful to have the great pics to remember how lovely they were. Would have fresh flowers in the house every week if I had the budget for it.

Hence the word ‘splurge’…I too wish I could have lots of fresh flowers every week…my wallet…not so much.

  4. What a lovely way to treat yourself, susan, and so worth every penny!
What price can we put on beauty?

You are so right…beauty is priceless. A treat of a small bouquet gives me so much joy that I should do it more often!
