We were invited to create a show garden for the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s 2022 Flower Show. In our show garden, layers of conceptual ideas were woven together to make a restful experience that was inspired by the multiple roles that women have had to play during the pandemic years. We looked back to Virginia Woolf’s essay, ‘A Room of One’s Own’. In it, she posits that women need a space of their own, free from societal roles and expectations, to be creative. We imagined a feminine place of rest and renewal.
